This is a question that we are asked frequently, and the answer is simply that it is, and here’s why.

The FoneAway™ Lockable Phone Pouch is a flexible, robustly constructed, lockable mobile phone case, which offers padded protection for the contents, and is designed to safely and securely store a mobile phone along with accessories such as a Smart Watch or Ear Buds, to prevent distractions through use of the phone in restricted areas.

What makes the FoneAway Lockable Phone Pouch Superior to similar products?

Our partnership with a high quality, reliable manufacturer, was cemented after a lengthy period of discussions and product sampling with numerous alternative suppliers, who proved either unable or unwilling to meet our exacting specification and requirements.

Issues encountered with rejected suppliers during our research included:

  • Poor Product Design
    • A permanently exposed locking pin – a dangerous design to say the least.
    • Small physical dimensions – pouches unsuitable for use with larger mobile phones.
    • Use of flimsy protective padding – offering very poor protection for stored phones and ancillary items.
    • Inadequate strengthening materials used at stress points, such as the locking mechanism on the pouch.
  • Poor Manufacture
    • Use of inferior quality materials, which would result in a limited operational life.
    • Poor quality stitching and/or inconsistent pouch shape.
    • Poor quality locking mechanism and lock alignment – which could slow throughput at unlocking stations.
  • Lack of Flexibility (unable to meet our specified requirements)
    • Unable (or unwilling) to incorporate an external ID card pocket with clear window.
    • Unwilling to incorporate signal blocking technology.
    • Poor manufacturing and delivery lead-times, and unable to guarantee continuity of ongoing supply.

Although a time consuming, expensive and frustrating selection process, our persistent search for quality was eventually rewarded, and our contracted manufacturer is totally reliable, able to produce pouches at whatever scale is needed, and importantly, is a well established business, offering guaranteed continuity of supply for future orders.

Simple Speedy Locking and Unlocking

Once the phone is inserted in the pouch, a single press of the lock button secures the phone safely away, preventing its use whilst in the restricted area (the phone can be released later at a convenient on-site magnetic unlocking station).

The design and quality of the Safety Locking Mechanism ensures smooth and quick operation, which is aided by the extra-thick locking pin, specified and incorporated into FoneAway Pouches. The thicker locking pin resides in the lock safety chamber, so is not exposed until the lock button is depressed.

Built-in Signal Blocking Technology

There could be nothing more distracting for the phone owner, than signals and sounds coming from their mobile phone in the pouch that they are unable to access. This is why all FoneAway Pouches incorporate a
Faraday cage type RFID signal blocking lining, to temporarily block incoming or outgoing calls or signals.

Easy and Convenient to Carry

The compact size, belies the generous capacity which will accommodate the largest conventional mobile phone, plus a smartwatch, ear buds or similar.

High Quality Materials and Manufacture

FoneAway Pouches are manufactured from a high quality, canvas faced neoprene material which delivers a hard wearing outer surface and a soft internal surface to provide excellent padded protection for the stored contents. The robust inner lining incorporates effective RFID blocking technology which eliminates signals to or from the phone whilst locked in the case.

For robustness and to ensure a long useable life, pouch manufacture utilises double stitching throughout, including around the clear windowed external ID pocket.

FAQs

Lockable phone pouches are secure neoprene pouches designed to temporarily hold and prevent the use of a mobile phone whilst the owner is within a designated restricted phone use area.

The phone owner keeps the locked pouch with them, but the phone cannot be accessed until it is released from the pouch using a magnetic unlocking device, at an exit point from the restricted area.

The pouches are designed to fit most modern smartphones, including larger models, many protective cases, smart watches and earbuds.

The RFID-blocking lining of all FoneAway pouches, temporarily prevents wireless scanning and communication, although signal performance can vary by device, network and environment. Phone owners with SIM-enabled watches and or ear buds should also place these in the pouch when entering a designated restricted phone use area.

Once the phone is inserted, a simple press button on the pouch instantly locks it to prevent access to the phone.

FoneAway phone pouches are opened using dedicated magnetic unlockers, positioned at approved locations such as exits, reception areas or supervised unlocking points.

Phone owners retain their phones, and authorised staff can unlock pouches whenever emergency access is required, either by using a hand held unlocker or providing access to a desk or wall mounted unlocker.

With normal use and proper care, the pouches are designed to last for multiple years and come with a 5 Year Manufacturers Warranty.

This depends on the location and layout of the restricted area, and will be influenced by the number of entry or exit points as well as likely foot fall.

Common sense and local knowledge are key here, but we will be happy to discuss this with you and to suggest a sensible allocation plan.
